Thistle J.F.C. v Maud

Thistle played at home today for the first game of 2019 taking all 3 points with a 4-0 win against travelling side Maud....
 

Thistle started with confidence with ALEXANDER scoring 2 minutes into the game. They were looking good, stopping any early chances by Maud.

Two near misses followed with MUIRHEAD beating the keeper but not finding the net and CRAIG hitting an attempt wide. Thistle could have been 3 goals up in the first 10 munutes.
 
Maud had a chance following this after winning a free kick in a dangerous position but was shot over the bar although STARK had it covered.
 
Thistle were showing their dominance, working together to stop any attempts by the away side. Building on this, Thistle cleared a Maud attempt in the box with conviction allowing RENNIE to pass the ball up the pitch where ALEXANDER was waiting, going on to beat the defence and get his second goal of the match,  20 minutes in.

The home side continued to control the game with some excellent passes between KIDD, SHAND and ALEXANDER opening up a chance which was cleared, but only as far as MUIRHEAD who went onto score at 22 minutes.

Minutes later Thistle had another chance after winning a free kick just outside of the left hand side of the box. It was taken by KIDD but unfortunately there wasn't quite enough power in the strike, falling into the hands of the Maud Keeper after clearing the wall.
 
Maud never gave up throughout but Thistle prevailed and took the first half to a close 3 goals to nil, yet could have been a much higher score.

A chance for Maud in the opening minutes of the second half, with a free kick given at the edge of the box but was shot wide by their No. 14.
 
A number of chances for Thistle followed, with attempts made by ALEXANDER and MUIRHEAD but the chances weren't being converted into goals. A great cross into the box  from a free kick by HOLT at 65 minutes was called offside. This wasn't the first questionable call offside of the second half.
 
STARK and Thistle's defence were putting a stop to any attempts on goal by the opposition who were still fighting, with midfield preventing any real chances for Maud to push forward.
 
More attempts by Thistle followed, including a strike by new player CROMAR from a free kick at 70 minutes but was saved by Maud.
 
Efforts by Thistle paid off in the following minutes when a throw in by TAYLOR allowed for ALEXANDER to get his hat-trick 10 minutes before the end of the match. This took the game to full time for a Thistle win.
