Thistle v Hall Russell United!

Thistle played another home game today against the travelling side Hall Russell in what was a strong and confident display from the hosts who took all 3 points with a 2-0 victory.

The opening 15 minutes saw some even play but Thistle were clearing any potential chances and pushing upfront. There were a number of opportunities to go ahead with corners won and the ball being crossed into attacking positions but it remained goalless.

Thistle continued to push and their effort paid off with some great teamwork seeing Thistle take back possession from a Hall Russell free kick and giving PARK a goal kick. The home side built on this with excellent set play up the field, allowing the ball to find the feet of McInnes who put it in the back of the net at the 25 minute mark and putting Thistle ahead.

It looked like the score would be doubled almost immediately after with a great ball into the box but Thistle didn't quite get to it. The next 20 minutes allowed for more pressure from the hosts and some skilful defensive play where needed from the back four, prevented any real danger and taking the game to half time.

The second half continued from the start with the same tempo from Thistle as the first 45. In the opening minute CRAIG got the ball in front of goal but MCINNES only just missed target, preventing his second goal of the game.

Thistle weren't giving up and carried on attacking through winning challenges and creating a number chances from corners. A free kick taken by the away side 15 minutes into the second half allowed for a great save by PARK.

Half an hour into the second half and Thistle were keeping the same high tempo as displayed throughout the match but the score line was unchanged. This was until minutes later where a cross into a goal scoring opportunity by HOLT saw the ball just miss and cleared, but only as far as S. RENNIE. A fantastic strike from distance put the ball past the keeper and gave Thistle the second goal they had been hunting for.

By the 83rd minute, all three changes had been made for the hosts with all subs making an impact on the game and helping build on an already strong performance. The home team carried on creating chances right to the final whistle. Thistle took the win with another clean sheet.
