Juniors take centre stage in the Ladies 2nd XI this season...

"So another autumn approaches and I look forward to steering the second team through another enjoyable season in my third year as captain.

The major target for this year is to bring on the exciting crop of youngsters we have, into regularly playing and enjoying senior women’s hockey.

The season opened up with a tough game against our first XI losing 7-0 but even though the score line did not go in our favour we played some nice hockey and it was great to be able to field a team with nine players under 18.

Last week we played Telford with a team not used to playing together after our side was plagued with injury and illness of a few key senior players. After going 1-0 down in the first five mins of play we fought back to a 2-1 lead at half time, with goals from Jayne Wright and Kate Bailey. Despite several chances in the second half we couldn’t capitalise on our lead and then heartbreakingly in the last passages of play conceded another goal to end the game with a 2-2 draw. But plenty of positives to take away from a hard fought match.

This week we take on Shrewsbury 2nd XI at Roman Road sports centre and the side includes three girls making their senior league debuts: Millie Parton, Amelia Chamberlain and Rosie Brown.

Ones to watch:
Bella Hatton -looking to establish herself as a goal machine up front
Grace Dunn - dubbed as the new Yvonne Ward! Grace made her senior debut in a friendly versus Wolverhampton marking a previous national league player out of the game."
