Roughly how many goals have you scored in your career?
“I’d say about 150 to 175. I was a winger at the start of my career and moved up front in my early twenties. I then began to score goals more often.”
Can you remember the first goal you scored?
“My first goal ever was the winner in an U9’s 5-a-side final. It was a hit and hope that went through the keeper’s legs!”
What is the most goals you’ve ever scored in one match?
“I scored 8 goals in a game once and Brians Laws (Scunthorpe United’s manager at the time) was watching. He approached me after the game and invited me for a week’s trial at Scunthorpe. I did ok and played well in a reserve game, but I wasn’t up to the required standard unfortunately.”
Which is your favourite goal you have scored?
“Probably the goal I scored for Brigg against Spalding a few years ago. It was a first time volley into the top corner from outside the box!”
Do assists and performances matter to you as much as scoring goals?
“The team winning matters most, but if it’s about scoring and having an average game or not scoring and playing really well I would take scoring every time! Most strikers tend to be judged on goals so you need some end product. Any striker who tells you he’s happy to come off the pitch without a goal is in the wrong position.”
What is your goal scoring target for next season?
“20 goals. Always 20!”
Thanks to Paul and let’s hope he reaches his target next season!
