Grimsby Town's Academy ran out 3-2 winners in a friendly at Brigg Town.
The Zebras led 1-0 at half time following a good first half. However, a much worse second half condemned Brigg to a defeat.
Jake Reed scored the only goal of a promising first half heading home Tom Pearson's corner.
At half time Brigg made many changes to tactics and personnel. This was perfectly understandable, but it didn't quite go to plan.
Grimsby improved a lot with goals from a trialist and Joe Starbuck (2).
Late on Ethan Gale headed in a consolation goal from Charlie Dolling's cross.
Brigg took positives from the first half and learnt from the second half.
Manager Lee Thompson had mixed thoughts.
"Our first half performance was bang on! We zipped the ball about and played very well.
"But then the second half wasn't good enough. We lost our shape and conceded three which was disappointing.
"At half time we changed formation and made five subs. This didn't work, but it was worth a try in pre-season.
"We'll know what is and isn't worth doing when the season starts. Before then we've got nothing to lose by experimenting.
"Well done to Harry Crawford who was man of the match on his debut. The new signings have all made a promising start.
"We'll go again on Saturday."
On Saturday, Brigg visit Hykeham Town in a friendly (kick off 3pm).
