Worsbrough Bridge Athletic needed a point to guarantee survival. They got it drawing 1-1 with rivals Brigg Town.
Worsbrough scored in the 2nd minute through Calan Rollinson. Jack Tierney equalized on 43 minutes heading home Jake Crossland’s corner.
In the second half Brigg went for it in search of a winner. However, Worsbrough defended well to ensure they wouldn’t lose.
Worsbrough played for the draw and did enough to get it. Brigg’s performance was good so they were unlucky not to win.
Manager Lee Thompson realized that.
“Worsbrough had one intention – to get a point and stay up. Fair play to them and they managed to do that.
“They scored early then slowed down and defended. We equalized and were the better side, but couldn’t find a winner.
“It was a shame not to get the three points we played for. One point has given us a bit more hope though.
“A good result in our last game might be enough. We’ll give it everything we’ve got and hope for the best.
“It’s not over yet.”
On Saturday, Brigg visit Selby Town in the league (kick off 3pm).
