Brigg Town inflicted a 5-0 thrashing on Grimsby Borough Reserves.

Brigg's biggest win this season came against Borough's second string. Reece Moody, Ryan Thompson (2) and Jake Reed (2) were on target in a 5-0 rout.

Manager Lee Thompson shuffled the pack making five changes. Paddy Shaw, Jack Tierney, Chris Rodgers, Tom Pearson and Joe Moloney came in for Declan Jordan, Sam East, Joe Smithson, Will Forrest and Adam Gowing.

Brigg made a perfect start taking the lead with less than 2 minutes played.

Pearson let fly from 25 yards and Alex Lait pulled off a fine save. However, the ball went straight to Charlie Dolling and he squared for Moody to tap in.

Minutes later Moloney's 20-yarder was well saved by Lait at full stretch.

Pearson then came close before Moody's effort was blocked in a crowded box.

Midway through the half Lait produced a world class save. Moody's powerful strike seemed to be going in, but he somehow tipped the ball onto the crossbar!

Minutes later Lait kept out another effort from Moody with his foot - that was also a good stop.

Although Lait had been keeping Borough in it, he was powerless to prevent the second goal on 40 minutes. Thompson turned his marker and blasted in a left footed drive from 20 yards.

The opening 45 minutes went to plan, but Brigg suffered a setback early in the second half.

Tierney picked up an injury following a challenge with Billy Nicholson. There was a lengthy delay before he was replaced by Cameron Houson.

After play continued Moloney headed Pearson's cross inches over the crossbar.

In the 67th minute Thompson whipped in a cross for Reed to head in from close range.

Soon afterwards substitute East nearly scored with his first touch, shooting just wide from Thompson's free kick.

On 81 minutes Thompson cut inside and fired home from the edge of the box.

2 minutes later Tom Raithby's free kick picked out Reed, who stooped to guide a glancing header past Lait. That made the final score 5-0 to Brigg.

The Zebras were very impressive on a rainy day at The Hawthorns.

Assistant manager Simon Roach was pleased.

"The lads played well in difficult conditions to win 5-0. Borough were a young side who also tried to play football.

"In the first half we got too many men forward from midfield and left gaps for them to attack us. We sorted that out in the second half though.

"We scored some good goals and created plenty of chances. We got the ball wide a bit more which we worked on in training on Wednesday.

"Cameron Hill did well at the back and Ryan Thompson had a great game. Our subs got game time which was ideal as we have big games coming up.

"The only down side was Jack Tierney's injury. Thankfully, it's not as serious as we first thought.

"It was an excellent result!"
