Jake Reed's goal sent Brigg Town into the Lincolnshire Junior Cup semi finals.

Brigg Town versus Appleby Frodingham held significance for two reasons. It was a local derby and a Lincolnshire Junior Cup quarter final.

Jake Reed struck early in the second half to give Brigg a 1-0 victory.

Brigg only made one change with Jake Parker replacing Joe Moloney.

Brigg began brightly with Tom Pearson and Cameron Hill forcing Chris Stanley into saves.

Afterwards Reece Moody had a shot blocked by former Brigg player Josh Fawcett.

Hill was then denied by Stanley again before Pearson came close from distance.

In the 34th minute Moody's effort deflected off Jason Pembleton and fell kindly to Parker. Parker's first strike was saved by Stanley before his rebound was blocked inside a crowded box.

Towards the end of the half Martin Pembleton raced clear, but Pearson made an excellent last ditch challenge. If he'd scored it would have been very much against the run of play.

Brigg had controlled the first half and were unlucky not to be winning at half time.

In the second half Paddy Shaw saved Jason Pembleton's header from a Danny Varley corner.

Soon afterwards Brigg took the lead from a set play on 52 minutes. Jack Tierney whipped in a free kick and Reed slid in to fire home from close range.

The visitors responded well almost equalizing twice.

First Brigg lost possession in a dangerous area which resulted in a good chance for Stuart Longbone. Will Forrest did brilliantly to clear Longbone's shot off the line.

Minutes later Kurt Robinson rattled the crossbar with a thunderous drive.

However, Robinson then picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Charlie Dolling.

Brigg retook control after the dismissal and Tierney came close with a 30-yarder.

Midway through the second half Jake Crossland came on for Moody. Crossland almost made an instant impact, but Stanley pulled off a stunning one handed save to deny him.

As Brigg continued to dominate Stanley made a save at the feet of Pearson. The ball went to Reed and he found Hill, whose effort was well blocked by James Bingham.

At the other end Martin Pembleton curled a free kick just over the bar.

Late on Brigg changed their shape and replaced Dolling with Chris Rodgers.

This worked and Rodgers helped Brigg to see the game out. He also forced Stanley into a decent save in the closing stages.

At full time Brigg were more than happy to run out 1-0 winners. They're now only one win away from claiming a grand final spot!

Manager Lee Thompson was thrilled.

"It was great to win this local derby/cup tie! Our starting eleven and subs were all very good.

"Appleby Frodingham were a physical and hard working team. We knew they would be and wouldn't have won without playing well.

"We edged a scrappy first half, but didn't manage to score. A strong start to the second half gave us the only goal of the game.

"Appleby Frodingham almost equalized just before their red card. Afterwards we remained the better side against ten men.

"I think our match winner Jake Reed was the star man. He was closely followed by Tom Pearson and everyone was outstanding.

"We're delighted to be in the semi finals!"

On Saturday, Brigg visit Immingham Town in the league (kick off 2pm).

Brigg (3-1-4-2): Shaw; Tierney, Smithson (c), Forrest; Raithby; Pearson, Parker (Moloney 75), Reed, Dolling (Rodgers 86); Moody (Crossland 65), Hill.
