Brighouse CC 1st Eleven vs Spen Victoria CC 1st Eleven.

Three consecutive wins under their belts the Brighouse boys had kept a very keen eye on the wether for this important weekend of matches.
In a traditional reverse fixture the home town club hosted the "Spen" 1st eleven with their colleagues in the second eleven had the short trip over the hill to the reverse fixture at Spen lane.

The visitors won the toss, to give themselves the opportunity to bowl first.
Adam Brown, returning to his former club, caught Chris Wynd(8) off Robert Warriner With just 11 on the board the decision seemed well justified.
Wynd's opening partner Qaisar Hameed (2), LBW to Joshua Fell had played the junior role to Sabar Sarwant (79) in his first game for the club,145/2. Hameed gone, Matt Garside keeping well to Nathan Cant, caught Sabar, a breakthrough that seemed unlikely, 147/3.
Was the pendulum swinging towards the visitors, Derron Greaves (27) entered the now intense arena where any edge to gain an inch being employed.
Sohail, bowled Alex Leadbeater, 213/4, the game in a far from satisfactory position for the home side now relied on the mercurial talent of Asad Mahmood. Asad put paid to his first ball, driven hard to the long off boundary for the first of three fours coupled to three big hit sixes in a 32 ball 42 score. Meanwhile Greaves had gone to the double act of Garside and Cant following an ill tempered period in which the Umpires were called upon a couple of times to cool tempers. Gamesmanship had achieved a valued wicket, could the home side rise above it to turn 221 to 250 or beyond ?
Amrik Singh (not out 27) with Wajid Hussain (48) together now, Asad had driven on to 251/6, so the first objective achieved, steady progress ensued.
Joshua Fell got through the stalwart Wajid defence, his second LBW decision of the day.
Captain Waseem Rafiq (not out 48), determined not to lose out on this opportunity, produced six fours plus a six of his own, took his side in tandem with Amrik past 300, completing their overs on 316/7.
A brief thunder storm had passed over during the tea interval, causing a brief delay as the new covers were easier to get on and off the wicket, saving the game.
Abid Awan struck out Peter Jackson (5) with just 10 on the board. Tosh Baker (21) had tried manfully with Evan Edwards (18) to make headway against the determined home attack. Sabar, bowled both Baker and Edwards in short order, the visitors 61/3 had a problem on their hands.
Alex Leadbeater (0) kept his wicket intact but not his nick away from 'keeper Wajid.
Captain George Deegan (4) also lost out to Sabar putting up a catch accepted by Asad, 79/5.
Adam Brown (6) became Sabar's fifth victim of the afternoon, Oliver Davison (56) had been the anchor in the batting line up. Fell (23), bowled Derron Greaves the catalyst to inspire the St Vincentian to achieve Davison and Nathan Cant (9)
Changing the wicketkeeper to free Wajid to bowl could be seen as inspired, five balls, three runs conceded Matt Garside (8) his counterpart behind the sticks to finish a remarkable fourth win, propelling the side to fourth in the league.

Spen Victoria CC 2's vs Brighouse CC 2's at Spen Lane.

The visitors took the bat first, from a very sticky start the side rallied, "dug in" to rally their cause as they too had visions of a fourth win to mirror their colleagues at home.
244/10, a credible score to challenge the bowlers.
In a seemingly whirlwind 27 overs 'Spen' were reduced to 70/10 securing the unique double act as the second eleven secured a fourth straight win and coincidentally a fourth slot in the league.

Apologies for this brief resume,Spen Victoria have yet to post a full scorecard for this fixture, hence the detail is missing from the report.

Jack Hampshire Cup - Round Two.

Brighouse have been some way from a cup run of late, it was with some interest that their opponents were to be Birstall CC second in their league creating a double interest in the outcome.
Birstall CC won the toss, elected to take the bat to get their marker down first.
173/10 in 31 overs mainly courtesy of 84 by keeper Ian Carradice opening the innings serving up twelve fours and two sixes in his eventual total. Eric Austin (24), Mathew Dyson (24) and Rishi Limbechaya (13) were the only double figure scores. Six of the side came and went without score. Limbechaya out at 157, Carradice out at 171, Abid Awan, seven overs, one maiden, 41 runs six wickets put paid to progress.
Brighouse had to be wary, the total could be deceptive if six could go cheaply then care should be the watchword.
A much changed batting line up designed to give batters who have yet to have quality time at the crease their opportunity.
Wajid Hussain (1) opening with Chris Wynd (28) must have brought his old bat, 48 yesterday 1 today. 65/1 third of the way there. Khurram Maqsood (20) recovering from a side strain, Derron Greaves (16) and Sohail Hussain, not out 27 secured the middle order.
Sabar Sarwant made up for his lack of wickets with a very convenient 57.
Brighouse 175/6 in 28 overs, now host Keighley CC in the third round.
