Town secure a top four finish, in this nine goal thriller at Lincoln Moorlands Railway......

Lincoln Moorlands Railway 4-5 Brighouse Town.

Brighouse made the long trip to Lincoln Moorlands and came away with all three points from a nine goal thriller.

Town had the slope and wind at their backs in the first half, but it was Lincoln who made the first real chance in the game, when a shot from the edge of the area was blocked by Town's keeper Ben Imeson, but the rebound fell too Ben Good, who crashed the ball against Town's right upright, with the goal at his mercy, allowing Jagger to clear the danger.
On 13 minutes Brighouse took the lead, when a move started by Leon Henry found Tom Mathews at the edge of Lincolns box, a one two between Mathews and Danny Hull ensued with Hull finding space inside the box, the young midfielder steadied himself before firing the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Nick Jagger and Adam Wilson were rocks at the back for town, as Lincoln struggled to get anything good going forward. With Gregg Porter shielding Town's defence, town were controlling the game, with Leon Henry and Sam Akroyd supplying the threat down the wings.
Town went close again when a move involving Mathews and Hull, resulted in Shane Hamilton having space, but the big front man shot wide from 20 yards out.

On 37 minutes against the run of play Railway drew level, when a cross from Sean Cann found Tom Garrick at the near post, the big striker beat Jagger and Imeson to the ball and poked it home from a few yards out.
Parity in the game was short lived as town regained the lead within two minutes of the restart, when full back Tom Brown intersepted the ball and advanced into the Moorlands half, the advancing left back slipped the ball inside to Danny Hull, who shifted the ball quickly onto Mathews, allowing the lethal hit man to see the great run made by Sam Akroyd, who had cut in from the right leaving his marker for dead, Mathews slipped Akroyd in on goal and the quick footed winger did the rest, he steadied himself as he entered the penalty area and rifled a left foot shot past the keeper into the back of the net.
Just before the interval Porter won the ball on the edge of Town's box, the midfielder knocked a 40 yard pass down the wing into the path of Sam Akroyd. The winger raced down the right but only saw his cross cleared for a corner, from the corner Adam Wilson blasted the ball over the bar from 12 yards out, and this was the final action of an enthralling first half.

The second half was only a minute old when Mathews picked up a Danny Hull pass, he quickly found Leon Henry down he left, but from 25 yards out the left winger shot wide. On 48 minutes Lincoln won a corner, but Adam Wilson was on hand to block and clear the ball. Lincoln replaced Captain Luke Forbes with Rikki Paylor.
On 56 minutes town added to their lead with the goal of the game, when Leon Henry slipped the ball back inside to Danny Hull who was just outside the railway box, the midfielder knocked a cross field ball to Sam Akroyd, Akroyd shifted the ball to his right before cutting inside on his left, the young wide man released a left foot thunderbolt, that nestled in the stanchion of the top left hand corner of the net. And the young winger rightly took the plaudits offered by his team mates and supporters alike.

The imperious Nick Jagger was outstanding at the heart of Town's defence, as he stopped Lincoln's attacks before they could get started with the help of Brown, Wilson and Sutcliffe. On sixty minutes town replaced the injured Tom Brown with Alex Okeefe. Brighouse were now rampant, with wave after wave of attacks, bombarding the Railway goal. Sam Akroyd crossed for Mathews but the predator had his shot blocked, the rebound fell nicely for Porter who smashed a goal bound effort narrowly wide of the mark, with the keeper well beaten.
On 68 minutes Adam Wilson cleared one of Moorlands railway rare attacks, allowing Brighouse to hit their opponents on the counter, the clearance found Mathews on the half way line and the Brighouse sharp shooter picked out Alex Okeefe on the left wing, the winger knocked the ball out of his feet before slipping the breaking Danny Hull and Gregg Porter in on goal, Hull raced clear of the Railway rear guard and with Porter to his right, the unselfish midfielder drew the home keeper before slipping Porter the ball, who had the simply task of tapping the ball into the empty net.
Sam Akroyd was replaced by Eli Hey on seventy minutes.

On 71 minutes Lincoln pulled a goal back, when a dangerous corner from the right wasn't cleared, in the resulting confusion the ball landed at the feet of Tom Batchelor, who poked the ball home from 5 yards out.
Town reacted immediately by going up the other end and adding a fifth goal, when James Suttcliffe advanced over the half way line and slipped Tom Mathews in on goal, the striker raced clear of his marker and the hit-man didn't waste this chance, as he coolly slipped the ball passed the advancing keeper to finish with aplomb.
With ten minutes remaining manager Paul Quinn entered the field of play, replacing the injured Nick Jagger, who had been a colossus at the back for town.
The loss of Jagger showed in the final minutes as Town conceded two late goals. With the relegation threatened Railway throwing caution to the wind, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Town's rear guard.
Lincolns third goal arrived on 85 minutes when a Danny Brooks corner was headed home by substitute Jake Thompson, who out jumped the Brighouse defence to head the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out.
Then in the final minute a long throw from Brooks, was flicked on by Lee Beesley to the feet of Sean Cann, who from eight yards out smashed the ball past a helpless Ben Imeson. In the final minutes railway threw the ball forward but Town's rear guard withstood the bombardment, as the final whistle blew, Town were worthy winners of this nine goal thriller.
