BRIGHOUSE TOWN in their fourth meeting this season with Bamber Bridge last Saturday failed to register a win despite leading 3-1 after 70 minutes.

One more, as in the previous game with Goole when they led 2-0, defensive frailties let the opposition off the hook.

With already 16 goals from the previous two cup ties and league game in Preston , six more were added in an enthralling 3-3 draw at The Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

From the kick off it was clear that Town were in no mood to allow Bamber Bridge a fourth victory of the season over them. However, it was Bamber who created the first chance of the game, Ali Waddecar breaking free and charging towards the penalty area, his hard low drive beating advancing keeper Chandler Hallwood, back in action after injury, and the shot went wide of the post.

Moments later in the eighth minute, Town took the lead, a swift move down the right by George Gomersall led to the ball being dispatched inside, Gabriel Johnson stepped over and it fell to Waide Fairhurst who took one touch before smashing a low shot past keeper Lloyd Rigby.

Two minutes later and Johnson fired just over as he looked to add to Town's lead.

Regan Linney came closest for Bamber on 20 minutes to equalising when he cut in from the left wing in to the six yard box but found his close range shot blocked by Dan Grimshaw and forced out for a corner by Hallwood.

On 25 minutes Callum Robinson delivered a free kick from the left and this was headed wide by the diving Aaron Martin.

With the game now opening up it was straight to the other end and Linney again was involved, this time he raced in to the area, the home keeper diving at his feet to smother the ball.

As the first half drew to a close it was Bamber Bridge doing all the pressing and Linney had the ball in the net but offside was ruled and from a foul on Waddecarr by Gomersall, as Adam Field struggled with an injury, the resultant free kick hit the crossbar before going to safety.

Then an almighty scramble in the Town six yard box saw Waddecar get his foot to the ball several times but on each occasion a Town defender flung himself at the ball determined to keep it out, the ball eventually being poked wide for a goal kick.

Field was replaced at half-time by teenager Jaydon Armstrong and it was Bamber who started the second half on the front foot looking for the equaliser and 10 minutes into the half it duly arrived.

An attack down the left wing saw a cross into the box that was partially cleared; the ball fell to Matt Dudley with his back to goal. His overhead attempt was deflected into the path of Keiran Charnock and with Hallwood stranded he gleefully smashed it into the empty net.

A few minutes later and Dudley was involved again, this time is looping header just clearing the bar. Tom Haigh, bavk from injury, had replaced Fairhurst on 60 minutes and it wasn't long before he was spraying some superb balls about.

A corner from the left on 65 minutes by Callum Robinson drifted over everyone only to find Martin out jumping everyone six yards away from the back post and sending a bullet header over Rigby and into the net for his 10th goal of the season.

Bamber were stunned and immediately made two changes, with Gary Pett and Brad Carsley replacing Dudley and James Boyd.

Four minutes later Town were a awarded a stonewall penalty as Johnson dribbled his way into the box only to be uphended.

Grimshaw stepped up to take the penalty which he blasted down the middle, Rigby was unlucky after getting a hand to it as he saw it ricochet into the net off the underside of the bar to give Town a 3-1 lead.

Matt Mahoney replaced Stu Vasey on 75 minutes and seconds later another goalmouth scramble in the home six yard box again saw Town clear the ball.

Not for long though, as in the 76th minute Pett ,on his Bamber debut, was sent through on goal and from the edge of the area drilled a shot in to the back of the net with Hallwood at full stretch. The Town defence had just opened up for him.

On 78 minutes Danny Naidole entered the fray, replacing Robinson and he was soon into action.

With time ebbing away and Town fans hoping for another goal to seal the game, Bamber corner on 88 minutes was kicked up in the air by Haigh, and, as the ball dropped, Linney controlled it, side stepped a defender and lashed a 10 yard shot under Hallwood to bring the scores level at 3-3.

The visitors sensed victory and poured forward looking for the winner, and Danny Forbes had a shot blocked in front of the line and then Waddecar drilled in a shot from the right that the Hallwood did well to hold.

Then Town had chances of their own to win it, with outstanding Huddersfield Town debutant Isaac Marriott dancing his way straight through the Bamber defence from his own penalty box before Martin took over and hit the angle on the crossbar and then after a Naidole and Johnson move, Martin, allowed advantage by the referee Jake Topp, was just faced with Rigby and he hit the ball over the goal instead of into it for the winner.
