Ashley Down vs B.A.C

In the words of Filton's finest: "Derby Day Mother F***ers".

It was almost two weeks ago now so apologies for the lack of detail in this write up.

Storm Dennis was upon us and conditions were awful. No one really wanted to leave the warmth of the changing room to start the warm up and at one point during the match it looked like the posts were about to get blown over.

The first half which apparently went on for 55 minutes was mostly Ashley Down attacking and BAC defending resolutely. This was summed up by a brilliant cover tackle from Furzey to put their winger into touch inches short of our try line.
However after multiple pick and goes meters from our line they managed to get over for the only score of the half. We went into the break with the score 5 - 0 to Ashley Down.

Scrum dominance ensued in the second half and lead to a belly flop try for Captain Nath Moore and a penalty for Shep from in front of the posts, although due to the conditions this was far from a gimme. The 4g pitch took it's usual toll on bodies and hooker Alex Wellington had to go off with a calf injury which we later learned will keep him out for the rest of the season. Back stronger.

We went into the final minute of game with BAC leading 5 - 8 however we were pinned back into our 22 with Ashley Down in possession.

Meters from our try line and with an overlap, it looked like a certain try if they could recycle the ball quickly so I took a gamble, killed the ball and deservedly picked up a yellow. With the clock now in the red Ashley Down took a tap penalty and managed to squeeze over the line.

Final score 12 - 8.

It is fair to say we were all gutted with the result but there were a lot of positives to be taken from the game particularly the strong defensive effort.
