Away Victory

Yatton II 18, Bristol Barbarians 32.

Saturdays result definitley put a marker down for the rest of the league to realise that this year Barbs will be no pushover this season.

I was again really encouraged and pleased that our commitment and attitude towards our pre match preparation was executed professionally and with purpose.

The first half (30 mins) was good to watch and our structure and play quickly established that we were clearly on top and we scored three well worked team tries. There were times when Yatton placed us under pressure with their back row making ground, which released their back line. Our defense was emmense and there were some bone crunching tackles from "Biily" in midfield.

We did allow our concentration to slip in the last 10 mins of the first half and our scrummage after being solid for the first 30 began to fall apart. We also had a yellow card for collapsing a maul close to our line.

The second half was a diffiuclt watch as we looked as if we were going to gift the game to Yatton , as the score line hit 24-18 we had a period of 10 mins where we scored from persistent driving mauls, followed by a well taken penalty by Gareth.

There is no doubt that we deserved the victory and we were the better side, however for improvemnet and to build on the performance our fitness levels looked in need of work, as we tired our old habbits of critising the referee and each other began to creep in.

We need to be ready for an eighty minute battle each week and everyone needs to play out of thier skins and give me (Crocks) no reason to replace ME.

Winning is a great feeling and we need to continue to build on our ability to dismantle teams by working through our processes, we need to learn that playing simple rugby produces well taken tries , if there is a call of hot ball because we have a 4 to 1 we must learn to have the discilpline to listen .

Onwards and upwards to the Cup game vs Kingswood.
