Bears Wembley dream still alive!

Heath were in the 2nd qualifying round for only the second time in the clubs history, not that we’ve been in the FA Vase too many times over the years but the draw was not an easy one for the club playing Southern Counties East League side AFC Croydon Athletic who came into the game in good form, five straight wins, that pushed them to the top of their Premier division.

Heath were still missing a number of their senior players with keepers Michael Chester and Jamie Craven both away on holiday as well as leading scorer Devon Fender but with players missing it gives opportunities for others to come in and Heath welcomed Conor Evento coming in for his second senior match in goal, Stuart Chester back in the starting lineup for the first time since April and Jack McNab being asked to take on the role of striker.

The visitors were a very big and physical side and took the lead on 19 minutes through Nahum Green. Heath drew level on 27 minutes with Tom Bold netting his first of the season and the score remained level at the break.

The game continued to flow from end to end without further score but swung in Heath’s favour with 20 minutes to go when Croydon’s fullback Tom Penson was shown a straight red card but despite the extra man Heath were unable to break down the visitors defence and the game went into extra-time.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Heath took the lead through Stuart Chester, his first start and first goal of the season but minutes before the break it was level again with Croydon’s substitute Luis Medina on target.

Both teams were then reduced to 10 players when Heath’s Kyle Sim was shown a straight red card but minutes later The Bears regained the lead when former Albion player George Cousins scored his 5th goal of the season to win the match.

In the 1st Round Proper Heath have been drawn to play Combined Counties Division One side Kensington Borough, the match will take place on Saturday 21st October.

Team: Evento, S.Chester, Robinson, Attwater (Eckana 54), Sim, Howard-Bold, Sandell, Parsons, McNab (Helsdown 47), Cousins (Copestake 115), Findlay.
