It was Brooklands vs High Legh in the 9U Cheshire League play offs. We were at home and we knew this was a very tough ask. To get to the play offs with such a young team is just awesome, they've all played their part this season and we are all super proud of them.
Andrew was drafted back into the Orange team as our most senior player, Orange tennis isn't his favourite and he's been playing Green all season but we wanted to put our strongest team forward and give it our best shot. So our team comprised Gabriel, Elijah, Andrew and Thomas.
It was warm and sunny as we welcomed the High Legh players, their line up really is quite formidable but I was looking forward to seeing how our team handled it and hoping for some great tennis.
Andrew and Thomas had some very tough matches, High Legh are strong throughout with very little to pick between their 1-3 seeds. Both of them had fantastic attitudes though, they kept going and made High Legh fight for every point.
It really wasn't to be our day though, Gabriel and Elijah nearly stole the doubles having match point first but it wasn't to be, it was a tough loss for them but they picked themselves up.
We picked up 3 rubbers in the end, which is more than we expected, with Gabriel and Elijah both getting some singles wins. Elijah coming back from 6-3 down in the third set of his first singles match, amazing his Father in the process and went on to win it 8-6. He also managed a superb win against their number one seed, playing some of the best tennis I've seen him play.
We finished 6-14, so no finals for the 9Us this year, but there is always next year and I know they'll be up for it again!! They are a great bunch and we've seen some superb tennis this season, long may it continue!
