A cold and crisp morning with a good selection of winter coats were on show to see the U12s play at Towcester. Our usual large squad turned up on mass with two teams ready to play after warm up, unfortunately Towcester were only able to put out one team.
Polars up first, with the boys applying immediate pressure through strong running from Alex P and good rucking allowing the backs to run hard at the Towcester defence, with Alex P going over for the first score. Towcester responded well with good competing at the scrums and breakdown resulting in no further scores before half time is called, 1-0 Buckingham.
The second half started with almost a repeat of the first half, but this time it was Luke and George combining well as Buckingham go close from the KO. Towcester again responded well, but good defence from Buckingham kept Towcester from scoring and ultimately led to a second score, this time from Isaac MB to make it 2-0 Buckingham at full time.
After a short break the Grizzlies were up next with again good pressure applied from the KO seeing Jack go close in the early exchanges. The first score soon followed, with ball secured ‘against-the-head’ by a good scrum, allowing Charlie D to score. Following the restart Buckingham stepped up the intensity, which was good to see, dominating in all areas of the game leading to two more tries before half time from Kyle and Mathis for 3-0 Buckingham at half time.
The second half kicked off with the boys continuing the nice rugby seen in the first half with good continuity between forwards and backs leading to further scores from Charlie D, a trade mark line drive and swallow dive from Willoughby to make it 5-0, a long mazy run out of defence by Kyle before unselfishly offloading to Joe to make it 6-0, and then a final score from Willoughby to make the final score 7-0.
With the Towcester team now tiring a final game of a mixed side was arranged with 7 Buckingham boys joining Towcester to take on the Polars (first half) and the Grizzlies (second half). This proved to be a closely fought contest, with Buckingham players dominating the game including William W on the wing! Mathis opened the scoring in the first half while playing for Towcester, and Kyle who scored twice in the second half for Buckingham. Final score 2-1 Buckingham and the end of good mornings work out.
