Road to Twickenham starts at Slough

Buckingham starts its campaign to reach the hallowed turf of Twickenham with the 1st round Bucks County Shield fixture away at Slough.

This competition feeds into the National Intermediate Cup with the finals at Headquarters, so whilst that dream is many matches away, it does lend a little more spice to the cup campaign.

Buckingham makes considerable changes both in personnel and positionally as they rotate their squad, and whilst the changes may affect the rhythm that has been shown in recent weeks, it in no way weakens a side that has scored 150 points in two league outings.

Captain Tom Amos moves up to loose head to cover for the missing Bishop, whilst Pat Ockendon moves into the 2nd row to cover for Thompson. This allows for the return to the side of Adam Whiter, now back from his trek up Kilimanjaro. A debut goes to Josh Harkins, who has joined the club from Bristol's academy school Filton College and he has shown excellent credentials in pre-season.

There is another debut for new signing Tom Cook at scrum half, whilst James Hulston moves to 10 to allow Andy White a rest on the bench after recovering from injury. Chris Stanford finally gets his chance at inside centre after being the stand out player in pre-season.

Sam Cook gets a much deserved start on the wing but in form Adam Clarke, Steve Miller and Andrew Jackson provide the continuity in the exciting back line. Chris Knowles completes the bench with Jordan Bishop.

As mentioned Buckingham are bang in form but will need every ounce of their confidence as Slough will provide a much sterner test at Tamblyn Fields. Their style of aggressive forward driving play will be in stark contrast to the free flowing Buckingham approach and the two contrasting styles will make for an interesting afternoon.
