Buckingham vs Old Northants Match Report

Buckingham took on the ONs on a very wet morning that needed wellies and brollies all round and I am sure much to his delight, another trip out for Jerry's coat! Although it was also good to see Nick still modelling his shorts!

The boys were soon put through their warm up by the coaches and split into two mixed teams, whereas ONs went with an A and B set up.

The Polars took on ON As first up and went immediately behind with ONs stealing the ball from the kick off, passing to the winger who ran in to make it 1-0 to ONs. Unfortunately the lethargic start continued through the first half with the opposition dominating territory and possession, with only good defensive play from the Polars keeping the half time score to 1-0.

As we have come to expect the boys played with much more intensity in the second half, which was typified by strong scrummaging securing good ball for the backs. With the pressure telling the game became very 'physical' but despite the dominance the Polars couldn't get over the try line to equalise. Despite the loss a good game, apart from the first minute!

The Grizzlies took on the ON Bs and with apologies to the Grizzlies I wasn't able to follow the game other than to know the boys played some good rugby to run out 4-0 winners with tries from Isaac and Kyle who ran in for three scores.

Following a quick turnaround the boys switched pitches with the Polars taking on ON Bs, which proved to be a much easier test. The Polars again took the upper hand in the scrums leading to quick ball out to Liam to open the scoring. Straight from the kick-off the boys secured good ball for Alex B to run through to make it 2-0. Two further tries were scored in quick succession one from a trademark strong run from Jack, the second following good work in the backs from Jacob offloading to Adam to make it 4-0 at halftime. Jack got the second half off to a good start to make it 5. The two Tom's then got on the scoreboard, firstly Tom O who showed good pace and a nice dummy to go over, Tom P also showed pace and strength with a line out take and run to make the final score 7-0 to Buckingham.

Grizzlies faced ONs As in their second game which as expected proved a much harder and, like the Polars encountered, a much more physical encounter. The boys eventually going down 3-0 but again playing well. As Kempy said at the end of play a tough but enjoyable mornings rugby in difficult conditions and tough opposition.
