Late last year one of Buckingham Rugby Club's teenage Academy players was diagnosed with cancer so, in true rugby fashion, his close friends and team mates decided to stand in support.
That support came in the form of a sponsored head shave with the proceeds going directly to the Teenage Cancer Trust. So on January 26th, and having just beaten Bedford Blues Academy 22-19, the academy team, along with a number of 1st XV players and a Buckingham Ladies Swan, lined up for the chop.
Academy Player, 17 year old Harry Fellingham, had set up a JustGiving fundraising account with a target of £10,000 which they smashed, thanks to online donations, several days ahead of the head shave, which was held at the rugby club.
The following message was received, a week before the shave, from Judith Anderson, Regional Fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust; "We have just received an email from JustGiving saying that the fundraising page was one of their top 10 most visited fundraising pages last week with 15396 views. We have never received such an email before, truly amazing".
Incredibly that fund now stands at £15,713 and with the Senior Club having a further £1,000 cheque to present to Judith later in the season the young players feel justifiably pleased with their efforts, albeit with rather cold heads!
The JustGiving page is still live if anyone would like to support: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Harry-Fellingham or go to the JustGiving site and search Harry Fellingham.
The rugby club would like to offer their thanks to Scissors Barbers in Buckingham for making themselves available on a Saturday afternoon, at a time they would normally have their own business to run, and to all those that made such generous donations.
