Buckingham Girls Rugby Squad had a great day on Sunday at Bedford Athletic Rugby Club, home of the Bedford Junior Blues. Buckingham took twelve girls to the rugby tournament, eight U13’s, two U15’s and two U18’s, and everybody got plenty of game-time.
The U15 and U18 girls joined in with girls from the other clubs present, Ampthill, Harpenden, Hitchin and Bedford, to play and train together. U15’s Salma and Hazel joined a game of 13-a-side with the Ampthill girls and had great fun and learnt lots. The U18 girls, Nicole and Heather, joined a training session and 8-a-side game with girls from all clubs and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The U13 girls; Abbie, Millie, Georgia, Daisy, Lulla, Honey, Amy and Emma; played a round-robin 8-a-side tournament against the four other clubs, winning three of their matches and narrowly losing a fantastic match against Hitchin. The results were WIN vs. Harpenden 6 tries to 2 tries, WIN vs. Ampthill 7-1, WIN vs. Bedford 4-3 and LOSE vs. Hitchin 3-2.
All the girls had a great day; growing in confidence, doing things they never believed they could and really enjoying playing together as a team; the chips and sausage rolls afterwards were delicious too!! If you know any girl from year 6 to year 12 who is interested in playing girls only rugby and going in confidence with us, please get in contact through the rugby club website contact section - http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/buckingham/contact/ - and send an email to Murray Bateman – Girls Head Coach
