Swans v Lichfield Ladies II

Buckingham Swans 0 – Lichfield Ladies II 48
20 September 2015

Buckingham Swans’ season started with a very tricky game against one of the top sides in their league, and having not managed to play any pre-season friendlies this may not have been the preferred opposition to get the ladies under way this year.

However, despite giving debuts to six new players, three of whom had never set foot on a rugby pitch before, the Swans gave a good account of themselves in the first half, particularly in defence, conceding only twice to give a half time score of 0 - 10.

The second half saw the opposition up their game though and unfortunately fitness and lack of game time played a part in the Swans conceding a further six tries to the well drilled Staffordshire outfit – who will no doubt be vying for the top of the league once again this season.

The Swans showed plenty of desire throughout and although with plenty to work on, can take a lot from this opening game not least for their player of the match Charlotte Dennis, who following a move from outside centre to No. 8 showed great promise in what may well now be a permanent move to the back row.
