Dean O'Connor's side rout opposition in their first game at Lace Hill

Jimmy Richardson volleyed a rocket into the top left hand corner. A definite contender for goal of the season.

Buckingham United were looking to keep momentum going from their convincing victory over Padbury, against a Southcott Reserves side who had yet to pick up any points. Buckingham were playing at Lace Hill for the first time, and this appeared to inspire the team.

United started the game by retaining the ball and dominating the match, however weather conditions started to break up the game. Strong winds made it difficult to keep control of the ball and this levelled the playing field.

Buckingham did create space to get behind the Southcott defence; Mitchell Young in particular found himself in some promising positions but nothing came from it. The breakthrough came for Buckingham when Jack White used the wind to enhance his long throw, and John Westcott headed Buckingham into a 1-0 lead.

The goal settled Buckingham, this allowed wide men Jimmy Richardson and Matt Carr to become a constant threat. The wingers were constantly looking to get in behind the full backs and deliver the ball to the box, Buckingham were unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the 30th minute when Matt Carr beat his player to square the ball for Mitchel Young to tap in. The linesman's flag went up for offside, when on another day the goal may have been given.

Southcott Village managed to create a few chances but goalkeeper Harry White was there when the defence needed him, and didn't look like he was going to be beaten. The first half ended 1-0 to Buckingham, a half time score that could have been better, but the team were confident with the wind in their favour for the second half.

Buckingham took a while to find their rhythm after the break, but chances began coming thick and fast as Mitchell Young and Bobby Cooney both went close. United eventually added a second when Matt Carr delivered a ball to the back post to Jimmy Richardson who volleyed a rocket into the top left hand corner. A definite contender for goal of the season, and an important goal.

United began to show their quality with a two goal cushion behind them and Mitchell Young was unlucky not to put United three up when his header from Jimmy Richardson's cross hit the woodwork. Young then grazed the crossbar with a sweet volley minutes later and it only appeared a matter of time before Buckingham would add a third.

It was a moment of brilliance from Ashley Urquhart that created the goal, the midfielder picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and ran through a number of challenges to thread Matt Carr through on goal with the outside of his boot. The perfect weight of the pass allowed Carr to slot home first time to make it 3-0.

Bobby Cooney wrapped up victory by finding the corner with a shot from 25 yards that left the Southcott keeper with no hope. Southcott rallied late on however man of the match Aaron Jones helped to stamp out opposition attacks in the middle of the park to ensure Buckingham finished with a clean sheet.

A convincing result for Buckingham, who recorded their first win on home turf to ensure back-to-back victories. Buckingham United 1st XI now sit 3rd in the North Bucks and District League Division One, and will travel to 4th place Scot FC on Saturday 1st October.
