Buckingham First's lose 3-0 to Olney

In their second match of the season Buckingham United First Team took on Olney this week. Off the back of opening day wins, both teams were looking to push on with their campaigns to gain top spot.

Olney started the game well, gained possession early on and began to dominate the midfield. In the 15th minute their left winger broke through the defence, cut in and powered it home. Shortly afterwards Olney scored again with a similar move and United had conceded 2 goals in 5 minutes to be 2-0 down after 20 minutes of play.

Buckingham began to recover from their very poor start and finding their feet, moved the ball around and used the space on a large pitch to gain more possession but failed to create any clear chances. Andy Selleck gathered the ball in the area but his shot was wide and Bobby Cooney met a header from a corner but a glancing touch sent it wide. The half-time whistle blew after a positive last 20 minutes for Buckingham but they were still 2-0 down due to the slow start.

The second half started but neither team was able to create any chances as both defences effectively shut down any opportunity. In the 60th minute, Buckingham Manager, Dean O'Conner made some substitutions and brought on Jack Stuchbury to play main striker. Stutchbury linked up well with the midfield and enabled Buckingham to push back the Olney defence. In the 65th minute, however, it was Olney, against the run of play and with some luck, that scored. Olney attacked down the right side with a player riding through several tackles, finally successfully, but the loose ball to the striker who squared it for a tap in. Despite being 3-0 down Buckingham continued to try and get back into the match but it was not to be their day.
