The Reserves continued the fine recent form of the first team with a hard fought victory against local rivals Padbury Village

A fantastic win and a great effort by all involved.
- Ant Weight

Boasting a number of former Padbury players including reserves manager Ant Weight, this was always going to be a game that both sides wanted to win. United's first team had already taken half of the spoils the week before with a 4-1 victory, now it was the reserves chance.

United lined up in a simple 4-2-3-1 formation with Tom Van Kleek, Ben Oxley, Adam Matthews and Cam Harrington making up the defensive line behind the friendly partnership of James Hayden-Watts and Karl Sear. Ahead were the attacking foursome of Jimi Jones, Jonathan Ackroyd, Ollie Stiles with Neil Hailstone leading the line. A strong bench featuring Damion Fallon, Ricky Selleck, Ant Weight and Billy Jones were all ready to show what they could do.

The game began and was well balanced for the first 20 minutes with both sides cancelling each other out in the middle of the park. United however began to create chances and soon after had the ball in the back of the net only to be disallowed for offside by the excellent linesman for the day, Bob Gough.

Minutes before half time United took the lead in familar fashion, A long goalkick played into the far corner of the field by Adam Bray with the resulting throw in intercepted via the head of Neil Hailstone into the path of Damion Fallon who played a precise pass ready for Jonathan Ackroyd to slot the ball past Alex Piggot in the Padbury goal.

Half Time - Padbury Village Res 0-1 Buckingham United Res

Padbury produced a high paced start to the second half in an attempt to pull themselves back into the game, however the defensive line held stron. The game began to slow with both sides beginning to play the long ball, much to the annoyance of James Hayden-Watts. However the long ball began to work as several clear chances began to fall to the trio of Hailstone, Fallon and Ackroyd. A special mention should go to Padbury keeper Alex Piggot who made some fine one on one saves to keep the united score down.

Padbury started to get the ball into the box as the game went on but could not find that illusive equaliser as the final whistle soon went. A performance by United which deserved more goals, but credit should also go to Padbury and United manager Ant Weight who made the right tacital decisions at the right time, especially the introduction of Fallon for the United Goal.

Next up for United's Res is Steeple Claydon Res on Saturday 1st October at Lace Hill Sports and Community Centre, 3pm.
