In a week where “shortages” was the main topic of conversation around the country, it was nice that the goals were not in short supply in the game between Wormley Rovers and Burnham Ramblers.
A cold, wet and windy day awaited both sides as they kicked off in North London.
First chance of the half fell to Burnham with Albert Galbally getting down the left hand side and delivering a beautiful ball, Liam Barry agonisingly close to making it 0:1 to the visitors inside 5mins.
2mins later Matt brown wins the ball at the back, driving out of the defence and slotting in Samir Ali who took one too many touches and allowed the keeper to make a stop.
Early controversy when Liam Barry breaks free from the defence and bears down on goal, a heavy touch leads to the out rushing keeper clipping Barry in the box but the ref waves away appeals. Wormley lucky to escape any punishment.
Another chance for Burnham to take the lead on 18mins when Eddie Appleton floats a ball into the box, Samir Ali heading over.
Burnham took the lead on the 12th min when Ade Funbi broke free down the right hand side, drilling an inch perfect ball across the face of the 6 yard box for the advancing debutante Samir Ali who’s slots home his first goal for the club.
Wormley hit back on the 15th min when a superb strike hit the top corner.
A great goal!
Wormley take the lead on the 21st min with the weather conditions working for them when a mis hit cross catches the wind and the Burnham number one Adam French unawares and the ball clips the underside of the bar and in.
Wormley extended their lead to 3:1 deep into first half stoppage time after breaking down the left hand side, crossing the ball into the box and the Wormley Striker heading home from 5 yards
The half time whistle goes and a shell shocked Ramblers go in 1:3 down at half time.
Burnham come flying out the traps in the second half, clawing a goal back on the 46th min when Liam Barry beat the Wormley left back and squared a ball to the calm and composed Ade Funbi, who slotted home from 7 yards out. 3:2
The equaliser for Burnham come on the 54th min when Liam Barry again broke free on the right hand side, cut inside and unleashed a left foot rocket into the bottom corner.
Ramblers took the lead on the 59th min with Samir Ali adding his second with a good finish from an Eddie Appleton cross.
As the game drew to a close Burnham continued to press for more with Joe Howard bursting through the midfield, taking on two players before slotting in Samir Ali who completed his Hatrick with a fine finish. What a debut for him!! 81st min - Score 3:5
Wormley made a couple of substitutions and threw everything at Burnham in the late stages to try and get back into the game. This meant leaving space in behind which was punished by Liam Barry who caught Wormley on the break, a fantastic run and a great finish meant Burnham took home all 3 points in a 3:6 thriller.
Burnham making hard work for themselves at half time, leaving them lot to do, however a huge second half performance from everyone ensured they took the 3pts back to the Dengie and remain in the hunt for a play off place.
