Ramblers entertained Takeley a team currently in second place and were dealt a harsh footballing lesson. Following on from a very creditable draw on Saturday against Redbridge hopes were high that we could gain at least a draw from the game. The side fielded 10 of the team that started on Saturday the only exception being Bradley Morgan who was unwell. The match started in cold conditions and it was soon apparent that Ramblers were up against a fit, strong, committed and well-drilled side. The first goal arrived after 8 minutes which was a blow to concede so early, however, honest endeavour and commitment kept Ramblers in the match for the next half hour before their 2nd goal arrived. In between those goals our keeper Chris Leonard had made a number of excellent saves and they'd hit the post on at least 3 occasions. HT 0-2. The second half was similar to the first without Ramblers troubling their goalkeeper to make a save. Leonard continued to produce some top flight saves keeping us in the game but the 3rd goal arrived in the 75th minute and their final goal was scored in the 92nd minute to put the icing on their cake. FT 0-4. This match highlighted the gulf in class between the top couple of clubs in this league and the rest. Ramblers produced a very spirited performance with no reward against an excellent opponent, hopefully, we can use this experience for matches in the future.
