Ramblers travelled to Eton Manor who play in the Cheshunt area of Hertfordshire for a game that they were hopeful of gaining at least a point. The cancellation of our last match due to fog in early December meant that with the festive period intervening we had a break of 4 weeks without a game. The team were raring to go and we started the game extremely positively and took the game to the opposition and created a number of very good chances that were either spurned by not hitting the target, goalkeeping saves or last ditch blocks by defenders on the line. However, after 31 minutes the oppositions' 2 most dangerous players combined to create a chance which Chris Leonard saved brilliantly but fell invitingly to their midfielder who slotted it in to the unguarded net. Having conceded much against the run of play Ramblers continued to press forward but lady luck continued to deny us. HT 1-0. The second half started and the visitors changed to a more defensive formation but Ramblers continued to display commitment and hard work but the enforced 4 week lay-off started to show and we never quite achieved the pace and tempo we displayed in the first half. After 70 minutes a good break and cross down the right side of our defence resulted in their centre forward having a easy opportunity at the far post which he duly dispatched. A third goal was conceded within the 7 minutes which sealed the result for Eton Manor but not before we gained a consolation goal from a Matt Coppen header from a corner 5 minutes before the final whistle. FT 3-1.
