COMMUNITY RUGBY 15 of 19

15. Community rugby update

Community Rugby in Burnley is up and running again with the schools and Burnley RUFC working together to deliver coaching and taster sessions across the town.

With Schools only being back just over a week, two secondary schools Unity College and Blessed Trinity both had the support of community coach Simon Finnan. With Unity seeing great numbers of Yr. 7 pupils giving contact rugby a go for the first time and down at Blessed it was great to see five year 7 girls having a go at tackling and contact rugby in the after school club. Both schools will be supported through the year.

Alongside these Shuttleworth will start a 30 week Satellitte Club from the 28th of September and plans are in place to work with them in Curriculm time. With Burnley High School also looking at suitable dates to work with the club and Sir John Thursby and Hameldon also being offered rugby support when dates and times suit both.

Into the junior schools and again Burnley RUFC are working with Helen Tyson and Schools Sports Partnership to support all Junior Schools in Burnley and Padiham, with a few already seeing Simon delivering his sessions. Others have booked in for later in the year or early next. Then again like the senior schools other are looking at dates and year groups to as and when they will require Tag Rugby Support.

Also away from the schools next week Burnley RUFC will be hosting the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides of the Burnley Borough with fun games planned and a bit of contact rugby for the older ones.

Another new partnership planned for this season is the inviting of schools to Burnley training nights, therefore children are coming for the first time with school friends and then hopefully a few will join the club and play the sport both at school and the club. The first of these hopes to be next Wednesday 21st September with Burnley High School and a Junior School.
Therefore any school who would be interested in this just drop Simon an email (caldervale78@hotmail.co.uk) and we will plan a date and time - the club train on Wednesday at 6.30pm or a Sunday morning if the age group had no game.

So Overall Burnley RUFC Community Coaching is back in full swing and any organisation, school, club or business who fancy trying Rugby Union get in touch and we will try and put something together - email above or call 07988122186.
