Junior rugby round up!

Rugby got underway last Sunday for four of the junior sides in their respective Lancashire matches -
U13's away at Ormskirk.
U14'S at Orrell.
U15'S a close contest with Aldwinians.
U17'S at home to Wirral.

Starting with the eldest team the Colts made up of year 11 and first year college Students. The home side improved has the match went along. Unfortunately it was lost in first half as the away side scored 36 unanswered points. However positives still came out as Tom Bolton won all his line outs and carried well in the lose, Brandon Sharpe defended well from centre and deputant Jad was solid on the wing and then centre.

A big re-group at half time, got the players to highlight their positives and negatives and with changes so all got half a game, back on the field the lads went. They really took it to Wirral and began making inroads with powerful carries through the forwards and Roshane Hennings made nice breaks. A few penalties and a quick one was taken and Seb Leonard powered over supported well by Bolton. Nicely converted by another Burnley deputant Kyle, who darted well from nine and got the ball out quick. The away side also got two scorers in this half.

So overall many things to work on, the scrum needs to be 8 lads in sink and body positions lower, quicker support at the breakdown. However massive positive is how side gone from seven training at beginning of pre season to 18 before this first game and 20 playing against Wirral. Nice seeing Tom Maddran back in a Burnley shirt. Onto next week home again in the cup versus Fleetwood 12.30pm kick off.

Squad - Maison, Logan, Seb, Tom, Ibby, Scott, Bram, Ciaran, Donovan, Adam, Jad, Roshane, Brandon, Alfie, Jaden, Jamie, Kyle, Cameron, Will, Tom.

U15'S went to Aldwinians where the club had a very close contest. In order to see the England game the game kicked off at 10am and both teams came out a bit slow, but Burnley had most of the position, and in first half took a 5 - 0 lead into half time via a try by Charles Wilkes. Nothing else to report from the first half. Again a good chat at half time with lads throwing in comments, one area must improve is the breakdown, we need a 'Neil Back' or today's players a Tom Curry!! Let's look after the ball even if sometimes you don't get to carry, work near floor / breakdown is key to make this side stronger.

Second half and Aldwinians got back into the game has their flying winger got space and away he went. Now Burnley had to up their game strong carriers by Troy Richmond, Louie Nutter and Tom Wooller got the side on the front foot, but again minor a errors, forwards passing from the base, strong carriers be better!! Aldwinians were then up 12 - 5 and the home side thought they got it but in last 5 minutes Burnley took the game via a second try from Wilkes and converted. Then 1 minute to go a penalty Burnley take the three points, converted by Wilkes and Burnley go home 15 - 12 to the good. Great dogginess from Burnley's twenty, great refereeing from the man in the middle and all round good advert for junior rugby.

Squad - Isaac Marshall, Jack Uttley, Shay Brindley, Louie Nutter, Mason Ward, Kian Bagnall, Troy Richmond, Nathan Greenwood, Louie Murgatroyd, Liam Jones, Liam Finegan, Daniel Carlton, Jacob Howell, Charles Wilkes, Cameron Tregay, Tom Wooler, Matas Zalieckas, Zac Hamilton, Seb Burton, Jack Orr.

U14'S - Good solid performance today from Burnley in the first match of the cup which saw them win 0 - 29 away at Orrell. Defence and attack was excellent is equal measure, with some punishing runs from the forwards and the backs moving the ball about and exploiting the space. One try from Zak, one from Ellis, one from Charlie, Noah and Jamie. More of the same against Garstang next week please.

Squad - Harrison Sedgwick, Harrison Durkin
Zak Walsh, Charlie Conway, Jawad Kabeer,
Ellis Jolly, Mykolas Zalieckas, Rochdale lads- Oliver Cooper, Adam Rawsthorne, Aiden Corless, Edward Lambert, Noah Lawton, Daniel Collins, Joseph Foster.
