Tag rugby a World Cup Festival!

28 Mar at 07:42
Burnley Schools Sports Partnership organised their Tag Rugby World Cup Festival where 21 schools entered - St Joseph's, Stoneyholme, St James, Heasandford, Barden, Briercliffe, St Stephen's, Rosewood, Brunshaw, Cliviger, Cherry Fold, Lowerhouse, Holy Trinity, Wellfield, Whittlefield, Ightenhill, Padiham Green, St Mary Magdalene's, St Mary's, St John's Burnley, St Augustine's, Christ The King.

This years event was focused on each school being given one of the twenty four World Cup sides, and organised to run at the same time last November unfortunately the English weather beat us back then, so it was moved to March 2020 and almost fell foul to the weather again with it being the wettest winter ever the event final took place at Blessed Trinity Astro turf.

The rain still fell, however this did not stop the schools that attended all with full squads of boys and girls. Great effort from sides with their countries colours such as St Mary Magdelane's as Australia and Briercliffe as Samoa who performed a great Haka at the end of the event - see it @Burnley_RUFC on twitter.

With the event run as a participation event in line with RFU guidelines and children got similar amounts of rugby, just Padiham Green & St Stephens played one final game waiting for their transport and we could not have them stood around in the rain!!!!

It was great to see across the schools Burnley RUFC Juniors showcasing their rugby talent, there was also some real talent throughout ever team, a credit to the schools.

Overall a successful event ran by Paddy Martin , Helen Tyson and her team. Supported by Community Rugby Coach Simon Finnan and referees via Burnley RUFC , Gus Ferguson, Ross Clements, Paul Kennedy, Adrian Knowles and Burnley College Student Felix Taylor.

A few team photos online.

Well Done all.
