Cup triumph for u14s

Due to a late venue change due to the recent bad weather Burnley hosted Didsbury Toc H in the quarter finals of the Lancashire plate.

Winning the toss and with no noticable wind advantage to be gained the Burnley captain opted to receive the ball. Straight from the kick off Burnley went on the attack with the weather conditions better suited to the home teams style of play. Early attacking runs by props Seb Leonard, Roshane Hemmings and second row Maison Doe where contained by a well disciplined and solid Didsbury Defence. After 10 minutes of constant pressure the deadlock was broken when Liam Bythell punched a hole through the visitors back line neatly placing the ball down between the posts to open the scoresheet for the day, with the boot of Issaac Kelly converting the score now stood at 7 nil. Burnley again piling on the pressure keeping the visitors tied up in their own 22 forced a handling error awarding the home team a chance of scoring close to the visitors try line. With the ball fed in by Donovan Pearson the Burnley pack got set ready to drive when the ball popped out to the feet of the visitors blind side flanker who gathered up the ball and raced down the sideline towards the Burnley try line. In hot pursuit Oliver Robinson was unable to catch his man with the Didsbury player crossing the line narrowing the score at 7 to 5. With the pitch and weather conditions both now deteriorating the game got a little scrappy with both teams being penalised for high tackles, but again it was Burnley who capitalised when Tom Bolton crashed over the try line to give Burnley a 7 point advantage going into the break.

The second half started and both teams attacked and defended as though they where in the final with neither team looking likely to break the deadlock. Again a handling error by The Manchester side looked likely to give Burnley the chance to score, in a moment of panic at the back of the Burnley scrum it was Didsbury who took the advantage and with a move very silimilar to their first half try crossed the line again, this time coverting putting the game in deadlock with the score now tied at 12 all. Running down the clock and again on the attack a high tackle gave Burnley a penelty just inside the visitors half. Now playing at scrum half Will Parkinson tapped the ball and fed it out to Spencer Wilkes who gaining ground went down 30 meters short. Withba set piece move the ball was fed out through the back line with Emilio Salvino, Charley Haynes, Logan Cummings and forward Jack Chapmen all getting involved before tge Didsbury Defence caught up stopping the ball 10 metrrs short. Clearing out at the back ofthe ruck Liam Bythell got his hands on the ball crashing his way over the line for his second try of the day. With 5 minutes to go, capitalising on a high tackle it was Didsbury's who now went on the attck and against the run of play crossed the line levelling the score. With this being a cup game and away team being awarded the game if the match was drawn it looked like Burnley's cup run would be at an end. With 30 seconds remaining Didsbury where awarded a line out. With Didsbury only having to kick the ball out a moment of madness saw the visitors run off the pitch gifting Burnley a free kick just over the half way line. Now in added time Burnley through everything at the Didsbury defence recycling the ball through several phases before feeding it into the hands of Dec Dutton, cutting around the back of the Didsbury back line and in a race to the finish the ball was put down in the corner giving Dec his first try in the game and Burnley the honours. Final score Burnley 22 Didsbury 17.

Next week Burnley travel to Fleetwood as they continue to build on a very successfull season new players are always welcome
