Burnley 42 Clitheroe 12

Burnley Under 14's played a derby match against Clitheroe and came out on top. With twenty one players available for Burnley and seventeen lads travelling it was good for East Lancashire Rugby.

First on the board was Tom Wooller who showed good power and speed from centre and scored, then a loose ball was kicked through and then excellently picked up by Louie Nutter and away he went half length of the pitch to score. There were two more home tries in the first half as Burnley played well in patches and Mason Ward scored just over the line and Charles Wilkes rounded the half off with a score.

With the cold snap and lads hands getting cold handling was always going to be a problem, both sides had good scrums and held their own in this department. What was pleasing for Burnley though was that four different lads played at prop a key position that constantly needs developing.

Into the second half and more changes as rotation was key to keep all warm and Wilkes scored and converted his own try. Then the home teams sixth try was from a solid scrum and a good pass from the base by Jacob Howell, to Wilkes who drew the last player and passed to winger Seb Burton to score in the corner. Next saw a great team try as the forwards began to run in groups, as Nathan Greenwood and Isaac Marshall carried strongly. With a penalty given Blake Tonks took it quick fed Jake Peverley who went on a good run with Jack Orr latching on and Tonks forced him through to score. With more changes seeing all home players taking their turn on the bench. Clitheroe kept coming and scored the next two tries of the game, one converted excellently. However with the last play of the game the ball was fed out to Logan Cain and with some work to do managed to sprint round a couple of defenders, then the final defender came in, he stood him up and then went showing real pace and over the try line he went.
An all round good performance from the team, work ons will be when defending on their own line, let's burst off it and make tackles. Passing was good but let's execute it a few more times three on twos, however the power of the side driving through defenders was good to see. Special mention also to Chris from Clitheroe who refereed the contest in a great way to keep it flowing
