On a chilly Tuesday night in West Lancs, Burscough ran out comfortable 4-2 winners against Radcliffe Borough. Doubles from Niall Cummins and Liam Caddick was enough to secure the three points for the Linnets.

It was the home side who applied the early pressure with some intricate, probing football and on nine minutes, could have been a goal to the good. A corner from the right hand side fell to Niall Cummins whose scuffed shot was scrambled off the line.

Borough were equally fluid going forward and weren’t afraid to test Linnets keeper, Tim Horn, from range. Brookes, Sanasy and Chadwick all launched rockets at the Burscough goal that were unlucky to go wide.

The home side took the lead on 20 minutes. Williams’ corner on the left was headed back in to the mixer by Lynch and Cummins was on hand to prod home from close range.

It could and maybe should have been two on 31 when a superb whipped cross from Camozzi found Cummins diving but Borough keeper Coates pulled off an equally impressive save.

The visitors were rewarded for their resistance when they levelled just before the break. Chadwick whipped in a cross from the right which was helped on by Sanasy in to the path of Jamie Baguley who lashed home a drive on the edge of the box.

Borough threatened to take the lead in the opening exchanges of the second half, Baguely creating space but dragging wide. Burscough then began to dominate proceedings and retook the lead on 58 minutes when Liam Caddick was on hand to prod in a loose ball.

10 minutes later, Burscough had a third, Cummins his second. Camozzi provides another brilliant cross and the big striker planted an excellent header past Coates. The home side looked home and hosed until the 75th minute when the referee awarded Borough a penalty that, after a slight delay, Matty Chadwick coolly sent Horn the wrong way.

The Linnets did eventually make sure the three points stayed at Victoria Park as Caddick secured his second goal of the night and Burscough’s fourth. Mayers lashed in an effort on the edge of the box and Caddick poked home, making it 4-2.
