The Club is very sad to hear that Jamie Williams passed away on Saturday 21st March, aged 62.

We have lost yet another legendary character from Peel Croft.

Although he has not been in the best of health recently he was possibly our most vocal supporter on the touchline, once he hung up his boots following his playing days. Yes he did question the parentage of the referee on more than one occasion, but the highlight would have to be when we had our first female referee on Peel Croft! At times a little too close to the mark, but it was always just banter and we are certainly going to miss some of his classic one liners! He served the Club for a number of years in many roles, as a player, coach, committee member, patron, supporter and as a founder member of the Sunday lunchtime card school!

Jamie was a good friend to many and a great tourist, with plenty of you having a tale or two to tell.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Amanda, children Francesca, Laura, Harry, his Mum Joan and all his family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.

Due to the current coronavirus situation Jamie's Family are unable to have attendees at his funeral nor a wake. They are absolutely gutted that they can't give him the send off he deserves. They plan to arrange a wake at a later date to celebrate his life but have decided to raise monies in his memory for Burton RFC and to have a bench placed at our new Tatenhill site. This is even more poignant by the fact that Jamie was born in Tatenhill.

Burton RFC was a huge part of his life and whilst he tried his best to stand up and watch games despite his medical conditions the family feel that a bench next to the pitch would be a perfect memorial for him. Donations can be made by visiting the following website JustGiving - Jamie Williams RIP
