The Coventry based side were three places below Burton and fighting to stay in the Midlands premier league, so a tough game was expected. The visitors played poorly and were in effect blown away in the first ten minutes. They were then chasing the game for the rest of the match.
Broadstreet’s first try came from a simple missed tackle in the centre and a pass to the winger who scored wide out. The conversion was missed. Burton then conceded a penalty on their own 22 metre line in front of the posts which the Broadstreet kicker duly slotted over for three points. From the restart the home team again attacked in numbers and the Burton defence was unable to stop them scoring again. The try was converted to make the score 15-0.
Through a rare piece of good handling Burton eventually got into the Broadstreet 22 where the ball was carried by the forwards to the line with prop Ben Smith receiving the final pass to jog over the line. Will Simpson added the extra points.
Despite this score Burton continued to make mistakes and a poor kick ahead was gathered by the Broadstreet full back who ran the ball back from his own 22 metre line. All the backs joined in a slick handling move to score their third try. The kicker again added the extra points.
The next score went to Burton when Will Simpson kicked a penalty goal, but the home team scored again before half time. From a lineout on the Burton 5 metre line they stole the ball and the scrum half went over virtually unopposed. The conversion was missed but as there was no further significant action the half time score was 27-10.
Burton continued to make mistakes in the second half and when Simpson fielded a kick, he kicked it back straight into the hands of the Broadstreet backs who ran from their own ten metre line to further stretch their lead. With the wind increasing the conversion was again missed.
Burton did not give up and after a good move along the back line number eight Lewis Sturgess popped up in the centre to score under the posts. Simpson converted.
The next score came from a penalty when unusually the Burton front row were beaten causing them to commit the offence. The kicker took the three points on offer.
The home team were soon on the score sheet again when a series of missed tackles enabled them to score in the corner again the conversion was missed.
Still trying to get something out of the game the visitors won a penalty. They won the ball from the ensuing lineout and drove over the line, with the captain Dominic Taylor getting the touch down. Simpson added the extra points.
Broadstreet were to have the last word however as Burton again trying to force things had a pass intercepted by the number eight who ran from the halfway line to score under the posts. This time the kicker added the extra two points to make the final score Broadstreet 47 Burton 24.
