The A's travelled to Walsall on a cold foggy saturday. After some rallying from manager Tim Barker, one of the strongest teams of the season were assembled.
The 4g pitch made the ball very slippery, but this was a problem for both teams. The first half was a very even affair, with Walsall drawing first blood with a well worked try from a Burton knock on, 5-0.
The visitors responded with some strong runs from Allen, Scobie and Gibbs. From a charge down Tahriq Allen was able to fight his way over to bring the scores level 5-5.
More pressure from the Burton forwards saw Cam Scobie twist and turn before grounding the ball 5-12.
Walsall responded well, and built up thr phases, gaining yards through solid runs from the 12 and Number 8. The pressure eventually told and the scores were level again 12-12.
Burton were giving away too many penalties and keeping Walsall in the game. Burton pressured but couldnt find a way through some stubborn defence.
Half time:
Walsall 12-12 Burton
A few changes at half time and the boys came out of the blocks, quick hands from Brooks and English, released Lister down the wing. He kicked on and Kamva Lunqe recovered, several phases later Kieran Hawkett crashed over. 17-12.
The Crofters had their tails up and breaks from Doc and Bonehead, set up Callum Stoakes to wriggle over, 22-12.
Further tries from Saba, Allen and Bonehead put Burton out to 43-12. 2 late tries from the home team brought the score back to 43-22.
The score remained the same. Both teams were happy to get out of the cold and into the sheds. A good test for the next weeks league and cup game against local rivals Lichfield.
Final Score:
Walsall 22-43 Burton
