A team lose on the croft

Burton kicked off the new decade with a visit from Syston. The earlier match saw the visitors run out comfortable 38-22 winners.

The Crofters were able to name a strong squad, with debuts for Ollie Butler and Sam Sheppard.

The game kicked off and Burton had all the possession and territory, but lacking the final pass. Syston were able to turn over the ball and clear their lines. A sloppy penalty gave Syston some possession, and the winger glided through the defence and over the line to score. 0-5.
Syston added a further try from the back of a maul to make the score 0-10.

With half time looming, the home team showed some scrum dominance and after several penalties. A driving maul eventually saw Dave Henry drop over the line for a score. 5-10.

The second half started in similar fashion, with Burton having possession and territorial dominance but unable to capitalise. Syston's hard running mobile pack, were starting to get on top in open play. After a break from the prop, they were over the line again. 5-15.

Burton pressed for another score to get back into the game, but poor decisions and a strong opposition defence halted them. In the end, Josh Lister crashed through several tackles to get over the line after great build up play by the forwards.
10-15.

Syston responded immediately after a yellow card for Riley Cassidy. 10-20

Burton did have the last say, a pick and go from Ed Saunders saw him power over the line to give the Crofters a glimmer of hope. 15-20.

In the final minutes, Burton pressed for a winning score, but to no avail. Syston were probably the worthy winners, but Burton know that they could have won this game.
