A quick start from Spartans saw them take an early lead and after last week’s heavy defeat the Burton team may have feared that worse was to come, but showing typical resolve the home side powered back with two quick-fire scores from ex-colt Tom Cooper and Lithuanian new comer Dav Rackauskas to give them a 10-5 lead.
But no sooner had this happened than Burton were reduced to fourteen men when Gareth Sutton limped of the park with a hamstring injury, however this inspired Burton to greater heights as Danny Jansic and Nathan Wrathall both raced in for a try a piece to take the score to 20-5 as the half-time whistle sounded.
The second half started with another quick score from the visitors to lessen the deficit, but Cooper soon got his second try as he intercept a Spartans pass and raced clear to put Burton ahead by 25-10.
Spartans hit back with two further tries but Burton had the final say when despite being further reduced to thirteen men as Jansic left the field after tangling his feet in the long grass and tripping over. However, some great work by the Burton pack with Ian Baker, John Collett and Will Harrison leading the way saw Jon Dickson break clear to feed Rackauskas, who raced in to complete the scoring and give Burton a 35-20 victory thanks to a tremendous Burton team effort.
