The definition of madness is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome............

Burton welcomed Willenhall for a league game and although we were scheduled to be played on the Ox-hay, we got the nod to play on the Croft pitch following the Remembrance Service. We have not played Willenhall for a season or 2 and they had plenty of numbers and a big well drilled pack. The sides squared up and it was hammer and tongs in the forwards with little ground made by either side so pretty much cancelling each other out. Burton however had the advantage in the backs with some speedsters on the wings, 1 of which Steve who got the first try. The 2nd came from some quick thinking, Marcus grabbed the ball following a kick to touch and threw a line out to himself, then sprinting through the defence to score near the posts. The last try again coming wide out from Steve on the wing. Half time score 17 v 0.
Half time team talk, we all agreed we were not going to go through the Willenhall pack and the best option was to go out wide and around them. I am still trying to work out what went wrong, but for the next 35 minutes we just as well not had any backs as we continued to run into a big physical pack??? Not making any ground, loosing possession and giving away penalties. Eventually the ball did get out wide once to Steve and we scored, perhaps the penny would now drop? No back to running into brick wall for the remainder of the game. Willenhall in the 2nd half getting on the score sheet 3 times and a game which could and should have been comfortable ending up within a single score 24 v 19.
A win and still unbeaten in the league.
Good points, defence up front was excellent and Steve on the wing back to his very best. Things to work on, line out, this is the first time this season we didn't steal a handful of opposition ball and I know why, it's 1 for the training pitch. Also need to work on team work, understanding your position and your role in the team, what I mean by that is a prop, is in every line out, scrum, kick off and 50% of all rucks and mauls and puts his tackles in, he could be the best player on the day and not have carried the ball once. Its not how far an individual carry's the ball its taking the right option and doing the right thing for the team that makes a good player.
