Burton U15's v Ashbourne U15's

Again a big thanks to all the players and parents for getting to the Croft in plenty of time, it makes all the difference in getting properly ready for a game. Burton had another big squad with plenty of cover in all positions. The game kicked off and Ashbourne were quick off the mark and following some straight running and decent hands they scored not far from the posts for a converted try, this was aided by some very poor Burton tackling. However it did seem to galvanise the team and they took the fight to Ashbourne. Burton were next to score following a good catch an drive from a line out in the 22m with Cameron to score in the corner. Burton were in the game, the next score came from Hector following some good work in the loose and a sprint from the halfway line to score under the posts, Ollie converting this try. Ashbourne were next to score following some sustained pressure in the Burton 22 with a big prop barging his way over. Half time 12 v 12. Burton made 7 changes and 3 others later in the half. Ashbourne raised their game a tad and following some good hands out wide they crossed for 2 more try’s in the corners. Final score 12 v 22. Burton did have chances to score but didn’t take them, but not through a lack off effort but more through a lack of experience. On the positives the rucking following last week’s training session was much better and Burton share of the ball at the breakdown was more on a par with the opposing team which made a big difference, the line outs went well and the scrum went well. On the things to learn front, still when to tap and when to kick penalty’s. Overall the lads played well and there is progression in the team, its decision making as well as core skills that need some focus in the coming weeks.
