Nuneaton RFC v Burton RFC U15s

Well, well, well! With limited expectations before the game, Burton U15's produced one of their finest performances of the season.

The match v Nuneaton was always going to be a challenging one for the boys. Nuneaton have an almost unbeaten record this season. Burton knew they would have to play to their best if they wanted to compete.

Nuneaton got off to an early lead, though never dominated the half. Burton showed a fighting spirit, which kept them in the game. There was much improved tackling and a real desire to compete against a well organised Nuneaton team.

By half time they had managed to keep the score down to just two tries to zero. A slow start to the second half resulted in a early score for the hosts. However, Burton soon hit back with a try scored by Kobie and converted by Dan B.

Burton now started to go through the phases, with better ball retention and cleaner rucking. Nuneaton scored the next try, but again Burton responded immediately. This was the moment for Dru Shenton to take centre stage. Collecting the ball on the opposition's 22, be beat off a number of tackles with a powerful run and went over for the second try. Cue pandemonium from the supporting parents (or one very proud mum!). Dan B again converted.

Burton continued with some excellent passages of play, and a determination to increase their total. This resulted in Will B scoring Burtons 3rd try of the morning, with a powerful drive to cross over the line.

Burton couldn't quite close the gap in the end. Final score 35:19 to the host's.

As mentioned, this was an excellent performance from the team against a very good Nuneaton side.

Special mentions go to Dru Shenton, who had a fine performance as hooker, as well as scoring (I think) his first try for Burton. Josh Wilcox had possibly his best performance in a Burton shirt, with a series of excellent runs and strong tackles. Dan B & Kobie were relentless throughout the game in the centre. Both did numerous try saving tackles and had line-breaking runs. For me, the best centre partnership out there!

Lots of positives to take away today despite the loss. Huge thanks to the coaches for all the time and effort they have put in this season. The performance today shows all the hard work paying off.
