U15s Burton Rugby Football Club

This week the U15s hosted The Mighty Matlock Baileans U15s, Burton started off aggressively and with a great run off Josh W bursting through the Matlock defence and being supported by the forwards working as a pack to awaiting Jacob C who ran like an unstoppable train through the Matlock defence then with a quick pass onto Dan B who noticed a gap and put through a great grubber kick and chased his own ball to score Burton’s and the matches first try.
Matlock restarted and with constant pressure being put on Burton’s defence and after multiple phases saw Matlock go over for there 1st try of the day.
Burton gathered themselves for a moment and then retaliated with some good forward play with each and every forward involved enabling Dan J to get the ball out to the backs quickly this saw Dan B perform a blistering run weaving and handing off a few of Matlock defence and Dan running in to score his 2nd try, which was successfully converted by Charlie B.
Matlock never to back down came straight out off the restart and after many passes and attacking manoeuvres saw Matlock awarded a penalty which the kicked and scored successfully.
Matlock started to put to use the advantage of their big and powerful pack to allow a quick ball to one of their backs to see him side step a number of our lads and for Dan B to put in a thunderous tackle that made all the spectators go “oooohhhhh” but the brute force and power of Matlock forwards recycled the ball to allow Matlock to go over for their second try.
Both teams were winning and losing ball in the centre of the field and both putting pressure on each other but Matlock successfully broke through to score their 3rd try of the match.
The 2nd half saw a determined Burton attack Matlock straight from the kick off and a great catch off Will B breaking through Matlock defence passing onto Dan B to break through for Burton’s 3rd try of the day(great assisted try Will)
Matlock stepped up the pace and aggression on attacking Burton In the 3rd quarter and ran in a numbers out tries using the big forward pack they had putting the score to 32-17.
The final quarter again saw Burton get off to a great attacking start with Dan B putting a great run in to put pressure on Matlock this allowed JP to get the ball and he was weaving and ducking and dodging the defence but was just held short of the line.
This then was like a final push for Matlock and they stepped up the pressure, pace and attack and ran in a few more tries before the end of the match, they would have had a couple of more tries but 2 great saving tackles by Johnny stopped this. Final score Burton 17 - Matlock 56.

As always we have a few shout out, firstly to Myles for being awarded Man of the match superb defensive and tacking work today.
Also a big shout out to all the new lads, Alfie, Archie, Leo Y, Thomas and Zack. Remember the lads are still getting used to each other and still gelling as a team.

We would all like to thank Matlock for travelling to Battlestead Croft and congratulate them on a good win.
