Burton arrived at Rugeley today ready for action. Rugeley were short of a few players so they borrowed a few of our Burton lads.

First of all, a massive thank you to the lads who volunteered, ‘action man’ Ben Acton, Harry ‘the Missile’ Roden, Zak ‘the attack’ Fellows, Ethan Lilley, Matt Johnson, Tyler Smith, Johannes Bould & Elliott Brown.

Burton kick off with the pack chasing the ball... the opposition intimidated, fumble the ball which Burton’s Will Bower gathers and makes a long pass to Zak fellows who is tackled but able to ship the ball to Burton’s Jake O’Toole who heads for Rugeley’s try line... true grit and determination and he is over the line for Burtons 1st try of the match in less than 2 minutes. Burton are unable to convert, the score Rugeley 5 Burton 5.

Play recommences and play is midfield, Burton already have the measure of Rugeley’s attacking methods but undeterred Burton’s Peter Grainger has the ball and he is over the line for Burtons 2nd try of the match which Will Bower easily converts taking the score to Rugeley 0 Burton 12.

Rugeley kick off and Burton gather the ball, shipping it all over the pitch like wet spaghetti. Burton’s Connor Hutchinson is in convincing command of the ball and he is over the line for a fantastic try which Will ‘the Boot’ Bower converts taking the score to Rugeley 0 Burton 19.

Rugeley kick off again and the ball is back in play, being shipped back and forth... great hands by all the Burton team... it’s now Zak Fellows’ time to dash in between the Rugeley players and over the line for Burtons 4th try of the match, Mr Bower again converts taking the score to Rugeley 0 Burton 26.

Scrappy play from kick off sees the 1st scrum of the match... Burton blast Rugeley backwards approx. 6 feet and come away with the ball sheer power of the forwards is an amazing sight. However Burton lose the ball and a Rugeley player sets off down the middle... he’s a big lad... can anybody stop him? YES Jake O’Toole unleashes his powers and puts in an almighty tackle leaving the Rugeley player on the ground. Scrums from this point go uncontested. Niall Collett has the ball and is ducking and diving between players and he’s through and over the line for a fantastic try which Burton are unable to convert. The score now Rugeley 0 Burton 31

Kick off and within seconds Burton are again in possession, Will ‘the Boot’ Bower has the ball and is inside, then outside before shipping the ball to Zak Fellows who places the ball over the line for Burton’s 6th try of the match which is converted by Will Bower, taking the score to Rugeley 0 Burton 38 at half time.

2nd half
Within in minutes of the 2nd half Burton are taking ground foot after foot, metre after metre... Burtons Jack ‘the Juggernaut’ Johnson is over the line a fantastic try from a perfectly formed set piece, tight angles prevent the conversion. The score Rugeley 0 Burton 43.

Play resumes and Burton’s Millar Pride is sorting the line out when a loose ball comes his way. Millar scoops up the ball and races over the try line before Rugeley realised what was happening. Will ‘the Boot’ Bower converts making the score Rugeley 0 Burton 50.

Play continued as Burton’s players rotated throughout the Rugeley team. Kick off and Burton’s Tom Rutherford, Elliott Brown and Matt Shenton prevented Rugeley, is from breaking through. They managed to keep the ball midfield and eventually robbed the ball which was shipped to Tyler Smith who was determined to reach the try line and with 2 Rugeley players on his arms he pushes himself to ground to score a fantastic try which was successfully converted. The score now Rugeley 0 Burton 57.

With Jake O’Toole breaking the last of Rugeley’s forwards and the scrums being uncontested due to his earlier almighty tackle, Burton come away with the ball... Niall ships the ball to the Burton Bash Brothers Liam O’Toole who then shipped it to Jake O’Toole who ran the ball over the try line to score Burton’s last try of the match which Will Bower easily converted. The score now Rugeley 0 Burton 64.

With only minutes of play left, Burton’s Zak Fellows who is now playing on behalf of Rugeley, has the ball and is flying down the wing, running through his team mates and over Burton’s try line to score for Rugeley. This try remained unconverted. The final score Rugeley 5 Burton 64.

Some fantastic set plays and a well deserved win for the lads, you’re playing as a team and in a very mature fashion, calling the plays and being true sporting gents. Well done Burton Bulldogs.
