Ahead of today’s match report, the Coaches would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Declan Bristow, Elliott Brown, Harry Mellor & Ben Robinson who all stepped up and played for the opposition. This shows great sportsmanship, one of the RFU Core Values

The Burton Bulldogs are upbeat as they walk over to the Oxhay... they’re hungry and ready for action for what turned out to be a fantastic game of rugby played by 2 teams of gentlemen.

The game started with Burton kicking off... the ball being chased by the hungry Burton pack. Uttoxeter catch but the Burton pack take one of Uttoxeter’s big players to ground. Uttoxeter look organised and appear to have a plan until the Burton forwards ruck over and secure the ball. Burton recover the ball and ship it out to the wing... safe, secure hands by the Burton lads. Uttoxeter are closing in so Burton ship the ball from one wing back across the field to the other wing but Uttoxeter have seen this and take Burton to ground causing the ball to spill forward. Scrum down, Uttoxeter put in but the Burton pack is strong and they push Uttoxeter back to win the scrum. The ball is recovered and shipped along Burton’s line... Niall Collett to Ben Acton to Elliott Brown who is tackled and taken to ground just yards before the Uttoxeter try line but he’s set the ball which Jake O’Toole recovers and dives over the line for Burton’s first try of the game. It was like a Brian O’Driscoll try from the days of old (well it is St Patricks Day after all!). Unfortunately the try goes unconverted.

Game continues and the ball is being shipped out wide and then back inside again. The Burton lads are playing fantastically well. Matt Shenton is tackling everywhere. Millar Pride has the ball and is charging for the try line... he’s made it and grounds the ball for Burtons 2nd try of the match. Harry Roden steps up and beautifully converts.

Uttoxeter kick off... the ball is gathered by Burton and great hands by Pete Grainger who ships the ball out to Tom Rutherford who then ships to Millar Pride who ships to Josh Kent... awesome handling but Josh is tackled and taken to ground with Uttoxeter rucking over and securing the ball but they knock on. The scrum was given to Uttoxeter as this was a double knock on, the first by Burton. The Uttoxeter scrum half gathers the ball but is wrapped up by Niall Collett before being able to offload. Play goes to ground and Jake O’Toole rucks over, scoops up the ball and is over the line for his 2nd try of the match. Tight angles prevent conversion.

Game commences and within seconds the ball is out to Zak Fellows who is charging for the line and they cannot stop him... Zak is over the line and places the ball between the posts for Burton’s 4th try which Harry Roden successfully converts, bringing the end to the 1st half.

2Nd half commences with Uttoxeter putting the Burton Bulldogs under pressure but Burton’s defence is strong and they defend their line well, pushing Uttoxeter back to the half way line. Most of the 2nd half was played midfield, extra special mentions required for Ethan Lilley, Tom Rutherford, Johannes Bould and Declan Bristow for some fantastic passing and counter rucking and also to Joe Marsden who prevented an almost certain try.

The only try in the 2nd half comes by means of the ball being shipped out to Burton’s Zak Fellows who is tackled. He goes to ground and sets the ball and, with what seems to be becoming his signature move, Jake O’Toole scoops up the ball and dives over the line for his 3rd and Burton’s 5th and final try of the match which is successfully converted by Will Bower.
