Burton RFC U13's 39 v Willenhall RFC 0

Hi gang,
Apologies for the short format of the report but I have had other commitments this afternoon & evening.

This morning we hosted our first County pool game of 2011 and a maximum squad of 22 players represented their club on a damp and muddy Oxhay.
Our fixture was against Willenhall RFC and for us to stay near the top of our pool, a win was a must and with the new ‘no handing off’ rule implemented by the IRB for U13’s, it was going to be a challenge.

From the offset the opposition looked nervous and the Crofters soon took control and started to put points on the scoreboard. Good work was done by all but we could just not get ourselves into turbo and made things hard for ourselves and if we had played as we know we can, the score could have been much higher.
It’s not very often that we win 39- 0 and the mood is so somber at the post match de-brief. The players knew they could have done better and were disappointed, there can’t be many teams out there who have that as a problem, how lucky we are.

Still after all said & done the try’s that were scored were well worked and came after great passages of play. Our scrummaging, against a much larger Willenhall pack was quality and we dominated the lineout despite a bad wind and only a few accidental hand off’s occurred which was positive.

So we will take the win and go top of our pool by two points and prepare ourselves for another big game at home next Sunday against Tamworth RFC, again a County pool fixture.
