Playing on the Croft in the final of the SRU U13s Waterfall Cup Play-Off final gave the lads a great boost on drizzly, overcast day along with tricky ground conditions.
The home changing room was loud and pumped ready for a great game with natural leaders coming to the fore with an inspirational team talk.
When Willenhall arrived, they too showed they were up for the final but were low on numbers. However, in true BRFC style and in the spirit of Kids First Rugby, 4 Burton players donned the Willenhall shirt to keep the game on.
The legendary Croft atmosphere generated by our largest gate of the season of loyal supporters entertained by the sound system booming out as the teams ran onto the pitch.
The first 10mins was a tight, nervy affair, with possession swinging between both teams. Then Bradder’s great vision sent him over for Burton’s first try. Once scored, the team picked up the intensity and began to play good open rugby with great running and support from everyone running in another 3 tries without reply.
Another 4 Burton players switched to Willenhall at the start of the second half which started well for Willenhall, running in two well worked tries. Burton had to dig deep to get back on track, which they did brilliantly by running in the next 3 scores. Willenhall finished with a late effort in the corner so the game ended 7-3 to Burton.
The game turned out to be a great match played in the right spirits from both sides. A brilliant advertisement of 'kids first rugby' and a absolute pleasure to be part of....special thanks to Phil and Claire for making the event special with excellent hospitality.
A massive thank you again to all the parents in supporting the team and coaches, this team just gets better and better.....
