Max and Henry Rice impress on debut

Nottingham Casuals 5-52 Burton

Burton travelled to Nottingham for their second game of the season, and were welcomed by a pitch that had held up well, despite the recent weather. This suited Burton and they were soon well into their stride, with the backs showing some good passing and running. It was after the first scrum that Olly Gibbs received the ball to dance over the line. The second was soon added by Jack Montgommery who powered over to touch down.
Burton didn't have it all their own way though, and some good defensive work was soon undone by some weak tackling which saw Nottingham get back into the game. Yet again, Burtons scrum showed signs of crumbling, but around the park the forwards put in the hard yards, and they were rewarded for powerful running and excellent rucking with scores for Thomas Allanson-Smith and Eddy Brown. After the first break it became very much a team game as the young Crofters seemed to overwhelm their opponents with a display of vintage rugby. Nottingham were always knocking on the door, but a solid back line kept them at bay.
With their opponents being continually forced back Ben Mumford, jinked his way over, and then with his forwards as the driving force, powered his way over for his second. Brown then pounced on a loose ball for his second, before Jack Montgommery chased back after the Nottingham centre, scooped up loose ball to break free for what looked to be a certain try, and felled him into touch.
The match was finished off by debutante , Max Rice. Who scored after Montgommery unselfishly gave him the ball on the try line. Mumford added 6 conversions.
