Burton U11's back on top form.

What a fabulous morning of rugby for Burton U11's today!
Veseyans arrived with 15 players but opted for one game due to them having a few inexperienced players so Burton utilised a training pitch to work on ruck speed and passing.
The start of the first game saw Burton put in a great defensive effort as Veseyans retained the ball and worked their way down the pitch. The Burton players were patient and continued to tackle hard until Ozzie Horton took the opportunity to steal the ball from a tackle that released William Rutherford down the wing. He was far too quick for the Veseyans defence to stop and he carried the ball over for the first try.
Veseyans had some strong ball carriers and they managed to get back into the game soon after but Burton made them work hard for their first try with some incredible tackling by the whole team.
At halftime, a brand new Burton team took the field and picked up the tempo from where the previous 9 players had left off. It was nice to see some of the newer players take the lead in this game with Zain Browne naturally taking on the position of scrum-half, following the play and passing the ball away from the contact area with precision and confidence. Jaiden Sidhu and Max Grabski made some strong runs into contact and continued with that forward momentum despite having multiple players hanging off them!
Again it's been difficult to choose the players of the match this week when everyone worked so hard but Matt Phiiliskirk and Josh Norcup took the awards for their efforts.
Matt has been playing rugby since U6's and has proved himself as an asset to his team each week. He has a natural talent for rugby and tries his absolute best each week to dominate in attack and defence. Today Matt was given the award not only for his high standard of playing ability but for his sheer determination and for never giving up. He chased the play today and produced a high work rate which made a real difference to his team and their successes. We love your determination Matt and watching your progression each week - keep up the good work!
The second award goes to Josh Norcup who has come so far in his rugby journey since starting in the U6's. Josh has had to work really hard in learning the game and dealing with some difficult situations with having ADHD. He has not let this hold him back though and rugby definitely brings out the best in him. He has become a confident player in attack and defence and is improving with his technique each week. Josh took his game to another level this week as he passed the ball out of the tackle and made passes before being tackled, something which we have been working on over the past few weeks. We are so proud of how far you have come Josh and can't wait to see where rugby takes you next!
Veseyans were great opposition today and all players embraced the core values of the games throughout. We received some fantastic feedback from our opposition coaches who praised the Burton players for their playing ability and sportsmanship. Well done to everyone and let's keep this momentum going.
