Burton U9's v Matlock and Melbourne
Burton U9's welcomed 2 teams to the Oxhay this Sunday as Matlock travelled from their Derbyshire base and near neighbours Melbourne Minxes made the short journey to Burton.
The lone Matlock coach had his work cut out for him as 19 team members turned up, surprising even him!!!
Melbourne only bought 6 players but these were a fledgling girls only team and Burton had accepted their offer of a further game.
Burton turned out 16 players, which was enough to field 2 teams, and with the benefit of an adjacent pitch we were able to run 2 matches at the same time. This did cause concerns for our 2 qualified refs Pete and Scott, as Pete was suffering from having ref'd the Children in Need Fixture on Friday, and Scott was suffering having taken a beating playing for the Senior B Team on Saturday. Both ref'd very well and ensured the teams had an enjoyable morning.
Burton played 4 matches, 2 against Matlock on Pitch 1, and on Pitch 2, 1 against Melbourne and 1 against Matlock.
Burton won 2 and lost 2, and the coaches were very impressed with the commitment to make tackles, and identified the need to retain the ball in the tackle as an area to work on.
The team were so keen to keep on playing they did not want to leave the Oxhay at the end of the session
Well done to all of the team
