County Tournament

Burntwood Tournament

On Sunday 21st April Burton U8's travelled the short distance to Burntwood RFC for the County Tournament.

This was the first outing for the newly bought Team Tent a.k.a an Event Shelter and this managed to fit everyone snuggly in. The weather fluctuated between bright sunshine and a fairly cold wind but the team of 10 were well up for the task of competing in a competition where they were runners-up last year.

The format for this year was fairly tight in that matches were only 3 minutes each way and so the team that got off to a quick start would be the better placed, unfortunately for Burton they faced local rivals Lichfield in the first match and it was Lichfield who were quickest out of the blocks and although a tight match Lichfield won 4-2, this was a good effort from Burton as Lichfield would be the eventual tournament winners.

Burton regrouped and won against Stafford, Stoke, and Trentham but lost against Uttoxeter leaving the tournament record of 3 wins and 2 losses, and unfortunately this was not enough for Burton to progress into the semifinals.

Burton did play some good rugby and would have suited a longer match format, and for some players this would be their last tag rugby match as they progress to contact rugby next year.

Burton U8's play their last match of the season this Sunday at the Stratford Rugby Tournament and our best wishes go to the Players, Coaches and Supporters.
